After first installation – guide

Applies to the Secretmsg mobile application for Android.

After the first installation, we recommend the following steps:

Close the application once and start it again. This ensures that all settings are loaded correctly.
Open SETTINGS / PROFILE / ACCOUNT. Check your profile, complete the details and choose which information should be visible to others. Then save the profile!
Set the required permissions. Open PERMISSIONS, DIAGNOSTICS, SYSTEM and then APP DETAILS. The application mainly needs Contacts, Notifications, and Music and audio permissions.
Allow the application to run in the background. In battery settings, set Secretmsg to Unrestricted.
To load contacts from your phone, open NEW MESSAGE and then SELECT RECIPIENT. You can then cancel the selection. The application will scan the contacts and compare them with users registered in Secretmsg.
For VIP+PRIORITY contacts, use Verify / repair priority sound under PERMISSIONS, DIAGNOSTICS, SYSTEM. Do not add the entire Secretmsg application to Do Not Disturb exceptions, otherwise ordinary notifications may also sound in Do Not Disturb mode.
A custom notification sound can be set for each VIP profile. On some phones, this feature must first be enabled in Settings / Notifications / Advanced settings / Manage notification categories for each app. The categories will then appear.
Before the first file transfer, set the folder for saving received files. We recommend creating a folder such as secretmsg_downloaded_files.
The application supports large files and various file types, such as audio, video, PDF, Excel, Word and ZIP.
The application allows communication to be backed up and restored, for example when moving to a new phone.
The application can be locked.
Messages do not have to be saved. When sending, you can prevent the recipient from saving the message. After it is read, the message is deleted.

All communication and file transfers are encrypted. Content does not remain stored on the cloud server.
